Anti-Dipshit Avenger: "Ken Levine"

Yesterday in a message posted on the Irrational Games' website, company Co-Founder, Ken Levine, stated that the developer would be "winding down", all but about 15 people would be let go, and that Levine would be opening a new studio that that will "focus entirely on replayable narrative". [more info] Levine went on to say that he hopes the new endeavor will be half as memorable as BioShock, and encouraged 3rd parties to email Chris Begelow at 2K games if they were interested in interviewing some of the best game developers in the world... that he just fired.
Now, I get the nuances of opening a new studio, and pushing for new IP that might not be supported by 2K. But, as an industry aren't we tired of this kind of cycle? Hire a lot of talented people, make an incredible game/series, fire most of said talented people, open new studio, lather, rinse, repeat. It's ridiculous. I've been asked on many occasions if my job hunt involved the game industry. It does not. I'm looking for stability. The game industry seems to be a mercenary system. Hired hands to get a job done. Fired hands because the job is done.
So yeah, maybe it's not fair to have the Anti-Dipshit Avenger to ear punch Ken Levine. Maybe there's a better target. Then again, maybe not. The ADA is not really forgiving enough to care.
All our best to those layed off in the Irrational Games "winding down" process.
