12 LED UV Flashlight by OxyLED
By Woody Hearn on Nov 14, 2015 @ 9:32PM

I recently reviewed OxyLED's 500 lumen LED flashlight. So, given the chance to get all CSI with their UV offering, I figured I'd give it a go. Unfortunately, the regular flashlight was so good, it's UV brother had a lot to live up to. After carrying it around my house for a while, I'm a little torn on where exactly it stands.

Compact and metal, it's got a decent hand size and feel. And, it certainly does emit a UV light. But, from a power perspective, it doesn't do much more than make stuff glow college-dorm-blacklight style. That is to say, I went room to room using it for it's stated purpose (locating pet stains, food stains, etc.) and the light just wasn't powerful enough to really illuminate anything "hidden". I've got two kids and two pugs, there ARE "hidden" stains to be found. I didn't find any.

Undeterred, I decided to approach the little UV flashlight more as a novelty item. In that regard, it's great. It's an amusing distraction.

Pros:
- Straightforward design
- Inexpensive

Cons:
- Underpowered

Takeaway:
Not powerful enough to be used for "CSI stuff"; but, at $9, it's an amusing distraction.

OxyLED's 12 LED UV Flashlight is available for $8.99 from Amazon. (At the times of this review.)
