World of Warcraft: "Azeroth Choppers"
Posted: Monday April 14th, 2014 by

Okay I'm about to make an admission that's going to shock you all. I'm a cynic. No no, really! Alright, none of you were fooled. You've come to expect that I'll look at something and expect the information to have a purpose that's unclear or, sometimes, intentionally obfuscated. That's my feeling about Blizzards recent announcement of a warcraft-based, motorcycle building web series with Paul Teutul Jr. of American Chopper fame. And, it's a great idea... 10 years ago.

The web series is called Azeroth Choppers. The details are a bit muddled in the promo trailer but here's what I think Blizzard intends to do. Paul Jr. has been drafted to form two teams of expert motorcycle builders and members of the Blizzard team. One team will design a Horde themed chopper; the other team will design an Alliance themed chopper. The fans will pick which of the two choppers will then become a ridable mount inside World of Warcraft. And, it all starts this Thursday on AzerothChoppers.com.

But dammit, an American Choppers knock off? Why? I realize that the show drug on until 2010 with an offshoot lasting until 2012, but it essentially became unwatchable in what? 2007? Granted, this isn't a show ostensibly about designing and building motorcycles that is actually a show about a grossly dysfunctional family and the toll it takes on their hardworking employees. This is a show that pits Paul Jr. builders against Paul Jr. builders with some Blizzard employees tossed in for referential credibility, slapped on top of a popularity contest that will, most likely, end in a bit of Blizzard Store downloadable item bait.

See? Cynic.

(Note: If you don't agree and think this whole thing is cool, there's nothing wrong with that. Don't let our cynical clouds rain on you enjoyment parade!)

Edited to Add:
Just so we're clear, I will be giving the show a chance. I may be jaded and cynical; but if I don't at least give the show a shot, I'm an asshole.
