Poopy Strip: "A Poopy Situation"
Posted: Monday March 15th, 2010 by

Though the amount of ranting is not accurate, the grumpiness of it is. For those of you not in the know, when you play Free Realms, you spin for your rewards after winning mini games, beating instances, etc. The problem I have with them is this:

Giving you an icon to spin the wheel, and showing you X number of items on that wheel, you expect pure randomness to provide you with a reasonable chance (1 in X) to get the item you're after. But, for the sake of illustrating the problem, let me tell you about the situation that drove me to such grumpy ranting excesses.

I hit Mining 20 forever ago. But now I'd like to have the full set of end-job mining gear. To get these I have to find Rich Gold Mining nodes. Play (and beat) the mini-game (pretty easy). Then spin the reward wheel at the end. There are 12 items on the wheel. 1 is coins, 1 is a sandwich, 2 are the items I'm hoping for, the other 8 are various pieces of gear I either don't need or don't want. From my very rough estimates, about 80% of the time the spin comes up coins. Obviously these spins are not truly random. So what's the point of making us spin the stupid wheel? It's a false sense of hope. I'd rather they just give me what it is they intend on giving me, and take out the frustrating waste of time that is waiting on the wheel to stop spinning.

I played the Rich Gold Mining mini game every chance I got for days on end. And all I had to show for it was coins, a wealth of sandwiches and a few pieces of gear that I would be selling for more stupid coins. So to whomever is responsible for the reward spins in Free Realms... Fie! Fie on you I say.

I know it's kind of a reach, but if you've got any RNG (random number generator) stories from any game, please feel free to share them.

And for those of you interested in a commission, my plate is currently empty. And I'd like to bring in a few to keep me busy if I can. You can read more about the process here: GU Commissions. And remember, anything is possible.
