Woody & Ted: "Bbblllarrrghhh!"
Posted: Tuesday May 26th, 2009 by

I was thinking about the writeup from a few days ago when we were talking about words officially entering the English language. And, I mentioned how my friends and I, by and large, stopped saying the word "rad"/"radical" after president Reagan said it in a televised speech. It kind of seems that pop culture loses its luster when previous generation picks up on it and injects it into their own communication forms.

But with the gaming demographic's age range spreading out in both directions, it's only natural that parents are going to be using terminology that their children have already laid claim to. The reason is simple, the parents were gaming before their children were born.

And where I might find it amusing if my mom called me tomorrow and told me her prayer group was "made of win", I'd think it was pretty funny. Ted, however, doesn't seem as accepting of the proximity. But, it's not even about gaming. As best as I can explain it, Ted loves that his mom plays WoW, but he doesn't want to hear or feel that she is too heavily indoctrinated. I guess it's akin to your mom saying your best friend is "handsome" as opposed to saying he's "hot". Ughhh! I just grossed myself out a little. But, I think you get the point.
