Sony recently reduced their PSP shipment targets / sale projections for it's handheld system from 12 million units down to 9 million units sold by the end of their fiscal year (March '07).

Yesterday, reports began to circulate that Sony would be cutting it's Japanese release shipment allotment by 20,000 systems. There's currently no word on whether US allotments will be reduced as well.

The shift in projections could have to do with the massive (94%) profit drop Sony just suffered, Nintendo's DS-driven dominance, inability to manufacture the unit in high enough quantities, or acknowledgement that over the last few months they've done, and said, everything wrong. And, I have no proof that any of this will impact the US PS3 release. But, could you imagine the potential financial backlash to game venues IF Sony has to cut release allotments and stores across the nation had to cancel PS3 pre-orders?

So yeah, manufacturing shortages, jackass company executives, canceled preorders, and a system that may well run hot enough to set my house on fire... at this point, I'm thinking I'll be ahead of the game if I just hook a rock up to my TV and tell people it's a blu-ray capable, high-def, next-gen, game console.
If anyone else would like a Rock Station 3, let me know.
