In an interview with CNet News, Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) president Kaz Hirai made mention that the expected life cycle of the PS3 would be on the order of 10 years. That's not to say that Sony wouldn't be releasing a new console before those 10 years were up just that Sony doesn't want you to feel like your $600 was a wasted investment.

There's nothing really interesting or overly exciting about Kaz's statements. It was just an opportunity for me to poke at Microsoft's resident crazy man, Steve Ballmer.
Sony's projected life cycle of their console systems tend to be around 10 years. The Playstation was released in the US Spetember of '95, On March 23rd of this year Sony announced that they would end production of the original Playstation system, a little over 11 years. In that time both the PS2 and the PS3 have been released, each around 5 years out from the previous console's release.
So, what's the point of the comic? Steve Ballmer is nuts. I honestly think he would say just about anything to one-up Sony. In my mind that even means making up game systems and their release dates.
