Gaming News: "Open Mouth, Insert Foot"
Posted: Monday May 22nd, 2006 by

David Reeves, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, in an interview with CVG (Computer and Video Games) admitted that several key launch titles for the PS3 will miss launch day (Nov. 17) and slip into 2007. He followed that admission by stating that the company had built up "brand equity" and that "the first five million [gamers] are going to buy it, whatever it is, even [if] it didn't have games."

I wish my schedule would calm down enough for me to get back to doing comics about games rather than the idiots in the industry that are so busy sniping each other that they completely overlook the fact that they're putting their feet in their collective mouths.

I just can't can't fathom how these guys can think that what they're saying is appropriate. Sure, I understand his point that the hardcore gamers amongst us will likely buy the system on release day, whether there are games for it or not. But, that doesn't mean that it's okay to actually SAY it. Believe it or not, it's condescending and undermines our intelligence. Hardcore gamers won't line up to buy it just because it's Sony. If anything they'll line up to buy it in hopes of getting one before demand overwhelms supply. Or, unfortunately, so they can say proudly "I bought it on release day".

But, seriously. We saw gamer response to the Xbox 360 releasing with no good launch titles. And it wasn't $600. Trust me, you DON'T want the cheaper PS3, especially if you're just buying it for Blu-Ray. [more info] (Sorry, it's an IGN article.)

Note: this thread is NOT about me OR YOU wanting there to be more in-game comics.
