Woody & Ted: "Lucas Raping Memories"
Posted: Tuesday September 28th, 2004 by

Today's Comic is my reponse to Lucas making even more changes to the original Star Wars movies for their DVD release.

Lucas has said repeatedly let us know his stance on "an artist's right to change his work". And most of the changes are fine with me. And please note this completely biased rant of mine should in no way be construed as me telling you that you shouldn't enjoy the Trilogy because of the changes. If you enjoy the movies that's excellent, and you should dismiss my opinion out of hand.

But, for me, the t-shirt I'm wearing in today's strip says it all. I am a purist. And, changes like the ones George is making to the original trilogy drive me freakin insane. What it boils down to is, I sincerely believe Lucas is a hack. He got lucky. The original trilogy succeeded because he DIDN'T have the technology to turn the movies into a heaping pile of garbage. And, thank goodness for that!

OH and believe me, he would change the movies even more, and completely destroy them, if the Star Wars Community wouldn't rain brimstone upon his head and stop buying his digital ruination of what we hold so dear. Again, there's NOTHING wrong with those of you that enjoy the movies with the changes. Remember, this is coming from someone who puts the ORIGINAL trilogy up on a pedastal.

So, what is it that makes me so angry?

Well, there's plenty, but this go'round specifically... he took Sebastian Shaw out of the "blue glowies" scene at the end of Return of the Jedi, and replaced him with Hayden Christensen for "continuity reasons". Yet, hey... if that's really the case, why didn't he replace Sir Alec Guinness with Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan?

In the previous "changes' what twicked me off most? Greedo firing first!
**grumbles** It completely changes the dynamics of Han Solo's character as we are introduced to him.

Needless to say, I could go on and on about this. But, I'm sure I've made enough people mad with this comic/writeup. **shrugs** Sometimes you just have to accept the blows to say what's on your mind right?

In closing, I'd just like you to know that I was so hard up to have the original trilogy on DVD that I did buy this set. But, what I want most... is an uneditted copy of the TRUE original episodes.
