In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Vice President of Valve Doug Lombardi explained his slow acceptance of EA's publishing power, and expressed that anyone was interested in acquiring Valve he was "happy to have that conversation".

You know when you're talking to someone that your really comfortable with in the company of someone you barely known, and your companion says something completely out of the blue that you're not interested in sharing? You just want to hit a button a button that rewinds them 10 seconds and start clean. That's kind of how I see Lombardi's statements about Valve being up for grabs.
I don't see anything wrong with what he said. Hell, for the right dollar amount GU is up for grabs too. I wouldn't mind retiring in my mid thirties. But Valve is "doing pretty well". So if someone did pull up to the table, they'd have to set a sizable plate. At the GU table, it'd be more like a saucer... or maybe a small teaspoon.
Uhmmm.... please don't send me purchase requests. This is just a joke.
Especially you IGE, I see you wringing your diamond and gold encrusted hands.
