I realized yesterday while trudging through mounds of gaming news that I'm completely out of touch with the current crop of popular video games. I've never been one to play everything that came out. But, the last "new" thing I played WHILE it was still new was Borderlands 2. It occurred to me that this is how old people lose touch with technology. The differences in my case being that I wouldn't mind playing new games and I love new technology. (Except smart phones. I abhor "smart" phones.) I just can't consume them at a reasonable rate to stay up to date.
All that being said, I don't think the desire to challenge someone to play Atari games is THAT out of touch. It's kind of like going to a museum and getting to touch all the displays. The graphics may be horrible by modern standards. Game play design was a blunt force approach, by necessity. But that's part of the appeal. They may not exactly be "timeless". But they are part of our cultural heritage. And I think that's worth revisiting from time to time.
I invite you to share with us your OLDEST favorite games here.
(If you say E.T. on the Atari, I'm going to disown you.)
