This past Monday (5/6) EA announced that they had acquired the exclusive Star Wars video game license. [more info] The first thing that came to mind when I read the title was EA's recent micro-transactions debacle wherein EA CFO, Blake Jorgensen, said the company would be building micro-transactions into all of their games. Press Release: The Walt Disney Company and EA Announce Multi-Year Star Wars Games Agreement
Now, I'm not overly bothered that EA will be producing Star Wars games, but the word "exclusive" makes my eye twitch. Exclusivity tends to stifle creativity not foster it. Sure they would be using different development houses but that in no way means that the best game studios will get their hands on Star Wars titles. **shrugs** Ain't no changing it now. Disney is capitalizing on their purchase. Not much we can do about it.
