Gaming News: "Don't Say It!"

A few weeks ago, Notch (the creator of Minecraft) announced that Bethesda was suing him over using the name "Scrolls" as the title of their upcoming game. Bethesda's claim is that "Scrolls" infringes on their "Elder Scrolls" trademark. Notch's response was to offer to play Quake 3 against Bethesda for the right to use the name.
It's funny, and a lot of gamers have latched onto it as a "good idea". And I'll admit it's an amusing idea. But, one has to look at the bigger picture. It's an idea that just doesn't work. Sure wish it did though.
Unless I miss my guess this is as Notch said "lawyers being lawyers". Bethesda's lawyers are probably establishing a "protect our trademark" paper trail. It doesn't really matter if "Scrolls" is determined not to be infringement or not, it still shows that Bethesda is will to go to bat for their existing mark.
Now, all that being said, $33 Million in Minecraft sales as of this past April... wow.
Hey Notch can I borrow about $50,000? That would get me completely out of debt and restore the nestegg I lost when my previous ad company screwed me.
I'll play you for it!
