GU Comics: "Microsoft Did It"

Okay the title is entirely mock surprise. I'm sure there are folks out ther that both love and support the Zune. There's nothing wrong with that. But sometimes you have to look at a products value in the face of its competition. Zune's current competition is just too strong. But the question of who killed the Zune, in my mind at least, is up in the air.
Now the title of the comic itself points a finger at Microsoft, this is purely a bottom line indication. That is to say ultimately it was Microsoft's decision not to produce more Zunes. [more info] Some might contend however that the Zune killed itself by running up against the Apple iPod in the first place. I'm not sure that's completely accurate either though.
Sure the iPod is a contributor to the death of the Zune. But my eye strays more toward the iPhone or, more accurately, smart phones in general. Seems like almost everyone has one these days and they do everything: music, movies, internet, etc. How does the Zune compete with that? Well, it seems it doesn't. Sorry Zune.
Just so you know, the Zune software isn't going anywhere. It's the hardware that will no longer be produced. It should also be noted that Microsoft is still refusing to confirm or deny the Zune's cancellation.
