I can't believe it's been 5 months since I last posted a guest strip. Wow. Anywho... I was going to do a comic today about this very same issue. But since this was the first Stormy offering in a while, I decided it was entirely appropriate to defer to her submission. Here's what she had to say about it:
This is probably a case of "beating a dead horse," but as I was reading Joystiq yesterday I came across the article talking about Blizzard selling the new Celestial Horse mount in their Blizzard Store for $25
[more info]; and that at one point the queue to purchase the horse was over 15,000 (or translated into cold, hard cash - $375k). Now, I've purchased my fair share of WoW:TCG booster packs hoping to snag a Spectral Tiger or some other in-game item, but for some reason the direct sales of WoW items via a storefront just seems like more of an affront, but for the life of me, I couldn't explain why. I'm sure a part of it is because I can't get in on the action somehow...
It did however, remind me of the constant "Oooh! Look at this neat new toy you can buy with REAL MONEY!" hooks that Zynga (of Farmville fame) uses constantly in their products. After looking at both stores I found them oddly similar. I wonder how long it will be before the click-through interface for purchasing in-game items for money in WoW is pushed directly into the UI of the game.
Enjoy!
