Videogame guru, pioneer, and design legend, Will Wright, is leaving EA to head a cross-media "entertainment think tank" called Stupid Fun Club. But Wright isn't completely severing ties Electronic Arts however, the company will co-own Stupid Fun Club with Will Wright and will have the right of first refusal on any game IP that comes out of the "Club".

The headlines about this story made my eyes bulge with disbelief. But, once you get past the over-sensationalized attention grab, you find that Will Wright is just moving himself into a position to spread his genius around a bit. I think it's a brilliant move for both him and EA. He gets to play around with new ideas and help develop new talent, without the restrictions or limitations of working in a high pressure dev house. And, EA still gets dibs on any game ideas that come out of SFC. Win/win. Boosh!
Needless to say, I have high expectations from Stupid Fun Club. But, obviously, it's going to be a while before we see anything start to materialize. Unless of course you're particularly fond of robots. Apparently that's what SFC has been doing for the last decade.
