Double Dragon: "The Cabinet"
Posted: Wednesday August 14th, 2013 by

The Atari 2600 may have been the first place I experienced Video Games, but I became a gamer on the Double Dragon cabinet at the gas station/geasy spoon down the street from my house. I can't remember what the store was called, and it's long gone now. I know; I looked for it on Google Maps. It's a concrete slab. In the gas station there was a juke box, a pool table, a Ms. Pacman table unit, a game like Tempest that I can't remember the name of, Galaga, and Double Dragon. I don't want to think about how many quarters disappeared into that machine. I didn't care. That cabinet occupied most of my gaming time until one of my friends landed an NES and we all took turns attempting speed runs in Super Mario Bros.

I think most of we old school gamers would like to have at least ONE arcade cabinet in our house somewhere. Mine would be Double Dragon. I lived in an exceptionally small town; my exposure to arcade games was fairly small. Chances are if I'd encountered a larger selection, my choice might be different. But I didn't. So, here we are. I'll be honest with you here though, I jump at almost any arcade cabinet. That's the nerd in me I guess.

You may be asking yourself, "Would Woody really drive 19 hours just to play Double Dragon in an original cabinet?" No, probably not. Can't imagine why I might this time.
