As many of you are probably already aware, Zynga is laying off over 500 employees. [more info] And in some cases outgoing employees have been asked to train their replacements or risk receiving a smaller severance. [more info]
Among all that carnage is an unfortunate pop culture parallel. The red wedding. All I can tell you is that it's a Game of Thrones nod and that those who have read the books or watched the show understand the reference. The confession from me here? I've neither read that particular Game of Thrones book nor have I seen that particular episode of Game of Thrones on HBO. I dropped cable television months ago. Almost everything I watch/listen to while I work is available online. Almost. I miss HBO terribly.

James Portnow, from Extra Credits, is heading up an initiative called "Games For Good", which will strive to -effectively- lobby for games. It also intends to provide talking heads in the face of media criticism that actually know about games and what makes them "good". James is funding the effort via RocketHub. He's currently brought in $12,105 of a $50,000 goal with 89 days left to contribute.
I encourage you to go read and listen to what he has to say. I'd be willing most of you would agree with where he's coming from. And, if you've got a few extra bucks sitting around that you're not doing anything with, toss em at the campaign. No extra bucks? No problem. Help out by spreading the word. Thanks for considering it.
