Dungeons & Dragons: "Blind"

One of the things D&D monsters seem to like to do to slow Thunk down is to blind him. Last week, I slew one monster while blinded (-5 to hit). But then found myself with no other combatants around me. Ignoring meta-knowledge, because obviously -I- can see the battlefield. Thunk was lost and didn't know what to do. I expressed my predicament to the other players at the table and was told by one of them, "just because you're 'blind' doesn't mean you can't see". Everyone else erupted in laughter.
I get what he meant. But, of course, being blind DID mean that Thunk couldn't see. Ultimately, I used what I could hear and some basic directions from fellow party members to charge the next baddie. Luckily, Thunk is such a monster that despite a -5 penalty he still has a very strong chance to hit. On a charge, using one of his stances, he'd be at a +15. It's awesome.
