Let me start by saying, this is NOT a discussion about Gun Control.
Posts to that topic will be relocated to another part of the forums.
In the wake of another terrible school shooting, Vice President Joe Biden has called all manner of media providers into his office to discuss what they could do to "help reduce the occurrence of mass shootings in the U.S.". Game Industry "leaders" will be meeting with him today. Gamasutra's Editor in Chief, Kris Graft, said that by speaking with Biden said game industry leaders would tantamount to admitting that the game industry is somehow complicit in the shootings.[more info] IGN's Editor-in-Chief Casey Lynch disagrees. [more info] I, though my opinion on the subject is almost completely meaningless, fall somewhere in the middle.
Note: I ONLY drew myself into the comic because I didn't know what leaders would be in attendance at the time of this writing. I in no way consider myself to be an game industry leader.
Where I get Grafts point that the game industry shouldn't even acknowledge that it somehow shares in the blame/responsibility, this is the best platform we're likely going to get to put our foot down in a manner that will be noticed. Walmart, the largest retailer in the world, tried to ignore a similar summons. It didn't work. We're headed in whether Kris Graft likes it or not. It now becomes the responsibility of our "leaders" to speak for us in a manner consistent with our opinions and if the Vice President can't comprehend our position then our "leaders" should walk out on him because he's already made up his mind.
Now, I won't go any farther than this, because, well, to say anything else will invite political discussion to some degree. And, I'm not interested.
To give other folks like me something to talk about...
The folks at Paizo have a Kickstarter project going to fund Pathfinder Online. They're closing in on their $1 Million goal, but they only have 3 days left and need some help. Here's the link:
