Gaming News: "On and On and On"
Posted: Monday August 29th, 2011 by

Marketing is such a brutal unloving beast. We gobble it up like it's made out of candy or something. But the second a marketing push crosses "the line", we pounce on them for their misstep. Case in point the soon to be released Razer Blade, billed by some knuckle-dragging marketing thug as "the first true gaming laptop".

The Razer Blade: less than an inch thick, 17 inch HD LED backlit screen, Core i7 processor, 10 programmable buttons with customizable LCD graphics (like the Optimus keyboard), and a built in LCD touchscreen instead of the standard touchpad.

Yes it's awesome despite it's $2800 pricetag. But it most certainly is NOT the worlds first "true" gaming laptop. It's an evolution of the concept of gaming laptops. I have an Alienware withing sneezing distance that is now 8 years old. It's high end (at the time) hardware was designed specifically to meet the needs of the power gamer. It is (was) in every respect a "true gaming laptop". Just because the Blade has programmable buttons, a face melting processor, and a built in LCD touchscreen does NOT make it the first of it's kind. And slapping "true" on there as a qualifier is a slap in the face to almost every other gaming laptop that's been produced.

Now, don't get me wrong here. I absolutely adore the design decision that were made for the Blade. I'd love to have one of these things sitting on my desk. And that, ultimately, is my point. This laptop sells itself without the need for marketing asshattery.
