Gaming News: "No More RROD"

At the end of Microsoft's E3 Press Conference, Don Mattrick revealed the new, smaller Xbox 360. And where he did not mention the elimination of the Red Ring of Death amidst his gushing hype fest, I thought it was worth mentioning. But how exactly did Microsoft get rid of such a troublesome nuisance? Nope they didn't figure out how best to fix it, they removed the red LED.
I'd admit to being cynical as often as I can. And it's decisions like this that fuel my cynicism. I've not read a lot of stories lately about the RROD. So it's not quite as topical a situation. But still, that red LED served a valuable purpose. It is a clear, visible signal that something is wrong with the system. I'm sure the new 360 just uses the green LED to blink out an error code. But still, the reason the red one got cut, I would be willing to bet, is all about squashing news of RRODs.
I don't think the plan will work though. "Blinking Green Ring of Death" is more fun to say anyway.
