Gaming News: "Reunion"
Posted: Monday May 8th, 2006 by

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) will be co-publishing Vanguard: Saga Heroes. When it became evident that Microsoft's vision and direction for Vanguard differed from Sigils's. Sigil began the proccess of raising funds to buy back publishing rights for their upcoming MMOG. As a sign of the amicable split from Microsoft and the tentative deal with SOE, all three companies will be demoing Vanguard at E3.

And, of course, I couldn't resist doing Smed and the Vision reunion strip.

I spoke with Brad shortly after the announcement was made. And from the information I've been given, and everything I've read about the deal, this seems like a good business decision to me, for all three parties.

SOE's role is to market/publish the game, handle billing, and provide back-end support. Meaning: they'll be responsible for getting the boxes on the shelf, adding Vanguard to the all-access pass, and maintaining the server farms Vanguard will exist on. Sigil's job will be to produce the game. Meaning, they will generate, maintain, and patch content. Sigil will also be handling customer support. And Microsoft, well... Microsoft will just continue to dump money into attempts at breaking into the Japanese market with the 360.

Vanguard will be available on the All Access Pass.
Vanguard will not have Exchange Servers.

If you have questions and/or concerns I highly recommend the growing FAQ Glip has assembled over on the Vanguard Forums:

There's nothing wrong with not liking this deal. But, I do expect ALL statements (positive and negative) to be intelligently written. As such, this thread will be tightly controlled to make sure pointless negativity and misinformation do NOT cloud the subject at hand.
