Prince of Persia: "Re-decorating"

I'll admit, I haven't played any of the Prince of Persia games. And when I saw the previews of "The Two Thrones" at Ubisoft's E3 booth, I dismissed it as more of the same.
To bring everyone up to speed though...
In "Sands of Time" the Prince had to fight an evil vizier who caused the sands of time to be released over the Prince's city. Bad Vizier! Bad.
In "Warrior Within", the Prince traveled to the Island of Time and had to do battle with an unstoppable time creature and the Empress of Time herself. But, Ubisoft made the Prince arrogant and cynical. The fans did not approve. Bad Fans! Bad.
In "The Two Thrones", the Prince returns home to find the evil vizier up to no good again. [ more info ] And now he has to fight his own inner deamons (read: alter ego) while he's fighting to regain his kingdom. Bad alter ego! Bad.
So what have we learned?
