Initially, I didn't intend to do a tribute comic for Ronald Reagan. No, it's not because I disagreed with some of his policies, I just simply felt that the world was being innundated with the news, and it would be best to leave my gaming fingers out of it.
But, when I read tonight that Ray Charles had also died, I got all droopy face. And, I knew that I could not let two great men go without tribute when they passed away so close together.
Ronald Reagan was known as the Great Communicator because he was able to attack his adversaries with his voice and his words. He's the president that over the course of 4 meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev softened the relations between the US and the Soviet Union slowly breaking down the walls of the Cold War. He told us that government was not the answer but rather the problem. His Idealism reshaped both Parties.
Blending gospil and blues, Ray Charles is creditted as being the originator of Soul. He's the voice of legend. How many amongst us don't hear his voice and immediately know who he is? He pushed the envelope of Pop music, never afraid to take a new direction. His career was about the "music", though he never took credit for his influence on shaping it.
The comic itself is meant to suggest that there is so much we can say about both me, that we fail to say anything. In the silence we reflect on their legacy, and impact, and that's all that ever needs to be said.
