Guest Strip: "Modern Warfare 2"
Posted: Wednesday July 15th, 2009 by

Stormhaven has pulled my butt out of a sling yet again with a very timely guest strip submission. Here's what she had to say about it:
Hey Woody -

Here's another guest strip for you, hopefully you like it!

I read an article on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/modern-warfare-2-prestige-edition-includes-working-night-vision/) referencing the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition and how it would include working Night Vision Goggles as part of the bundle. The phrases "Best bundle ever!" and "Stupidest bundle ever!" both popped into my head simultaneously and I got to thinking about how much fluff is included in these "Collector's Editions" nowadays. However, if these night vision goggles work halfway as well as their military counterparts (which I doubt, but you can dream), it would probably take very little prompting for me to shove these on my head, even if it was to do something like walk the dog. Somehow my brain made a segway to the Orbitz commercials with the hovercraft, and thus the evolution of this panel.

Enjoy!

Thanks Stormhaven!

So, you might wonder why my butt was in a sling. No I don't have an ass fracture or any other such ass trauma. It was just a figure of speech.

See a few days ago, the guy in charge of ConnectiCon mentioned that he was still working on the convention's program book. The Con is only 2 weeks away. So me being me, I asked if there was anything I could do to help. Matt being Matt assured me that there wasn't. But I didn't manage to squeeze the info out of him that they only had 4 pieces of artwork for their badges, they needed twelve. Which meant I jumped in. The catch was that all 8 pieces needed to be done by today. Which, as you might imagine, was an exceedingly tight deadline.

Well I finished up number 8 last night pretty late and as things often go, it just didn't thrill me. I liked the other seven; but number 8 just wasn't living up to expectation. So I started number 9. I finished a little after 3am.

Here's where it gets interesting though. Usually around 5:30 or so, theKid wakes up for the day. So while Taks is getting ready for work, he and I goof off and make a mess of things, scattering toys, books, and dirty diapers all over the place. But... for the last three days he's actually slept until Taks woke him up meaning I got to sleep in. This morning I was wiped, so the sleeping in was nice. But after gettin a very slobbery bye bye smoochy I passed back out. I didn't wake up until 8:30 and I went to bed without a joke idea. Loosely translated, I was not prepared.

There was no way a comic was going to be done today in a timely fashion. I was still pouring over gaming news when Storm's guest strip can in. Awesome.

For those of you that are interested, ConnectiCon '09 runs from July 31st through August 2nd at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. I'll be there if you can/want to stop by and say howdy. My schedule can be found here. There's a Webcomics Auction Saturday from 1-3; prints of the 8 badge images will be combined and matted into one frame. It will then be auctioned off with proceeds going to Child's Play.
