The Life of Ted!: "Whatever Works II"

Sometimes you take a job because it's what's available; and, that's cool. But, after the initial excitement of being employed again begins to fade, your brain starts cataloguing all the ways in which "this is going to suck". Every once in a while though... the new job ends up being accidentally awesome.
More often than not it's because of the people you're working with. They're in a bad job. They've been there longer. And, they've developed a sense of humor about it that's positively infectious. Sometimes however the job ends up being awesome for other reasons such as unexpected perqs, better than expected working conditions, and/or relative independence to work how you best you see fit.
While I was in college I worked as a delivery driver for Little Caesar's. That was truly an accidentally awesome job. I enjoyed zipping all over town, raking in tips, getting deeply discounted food... I even enjoyed making the pizzas. See one of the other guys in the store and I started this competition for the best looking pizzas. The goal was to make every pizza that came out of the over look like the pizzas in the pictures littered all over the place. Eventually we got in trouble for that because we were preparing the pizzas in non-standard fashion. See you're not supposed to get cheese on the crust. You're not supposed to sprinkle cheese over the topping. And there was a very, very specific amount of toppings to put on each size pizza. Yeah, we were supposed to count the pepperoni. **sighs**
I ended up getting promoted to shift supervisor, MISTAKE. Shortly after that a new store manager was hired. She sucked. I quit soon after because the customer meant nothing to her and in my book that's not okay in a service industry.
So how about you guys? Any jobs you thought were going to suck that ended up being accidentally awesome?
