Gaming News: "Gamenormous"
Posted: Thursday April 13th, 2006 by

Info drifted out of the rumor mill lastweek, by way of Kotaku (not exactly one of my "trusted" news sources), that, fast food giant, Burger King is "considering a promotion" where BK locations would offer three Xbox 360 titles that would feature the King in different gaming genres: action, fighting, and racing. The "leaked" info came from Greenfield Online, a marketing research company specializing in internet survey solutions, research, and consoluting. The plan included mock-ups and concept images. The three titles would be sold for $4 each.

Greenfield Online later threatened to sue Kotaku for violating Burger King's intellectual property rights, lending some credibility to the nature and intent of the leaked survey.

Equity Marketing, a marketing group representing Burger Kings interests (atleast in this venture), also managed to leave the project's entire FAQ open for public consumption. It was an interesting read, but they have since managed to tuck the FAQ away out of public view.

Now, GU is not prone to making comics about rumor. But this story had some interesting twists that made it worth a look. And, of course, this was the perfect excuse to draw The King.

I just don't understand why they got all up in arms. Like it or hate it, it's a pretty good idea. And, if the various companies are incapable of protecting information such as a survey and a FAQ, then why are they blaming anyone but themselves for having spread the info. That's a rhetorical question by the way. I already know the answer. It's called passing the buck. They don't want to be held accountable when BK starts breathing down their necks, so they had to find someone else to blame.

So yeah, I liked the idea of interviewing a subject that doesn't talk. You know... sucker him into providing an answer without havin actually answering the question, blah blah blah.

I wonder if this could set off a wave of other food establishments producing video games. I see myself playing a McDonald's game where I get to be the Hambugler or Mayor Mc.Cheese. And Ted could definately get behind a Hooters game.
