Gaming News: "the Big Idiot"

Recently 1Up.Com Editor, John Davison, was ambushed by an ignorant media hack trying desperately to cash in on the video game hate mongering that's running rampant through the media. [ more info ]
Donny Deutsch, host of CNBC's "the Big Idea", had his producers invite John, and few other gaming folk, on the show to talk about "the future of gaming", "online clans and community", etc. Then railed on them about violence in video games, accusing them, basically, of advocating products that "train kids to be killers".
John stood up and left the show as soon as he realized he'd been brought onto the show under false pretenses, and to serve no better purpose than to be a person Deutsch could focus his ranting on.
I, for one, am tired of the abuse we gamers and the game industry are being handed.
Now, I'm of the firm belief that some games are violent; absolutely so. I also believe that certain games don't belong in the hands of children. But, that's why every video game has a VERY accurate rating clearly marked on the front and back of the package. Parents, who take the time and do their JOBS, would not allow their children to play these games any more than they would let them watch some movies, videos, etc.
Now, where I'll draw disagreement from some folks is in my belief that video games do not make people violent. I belive they simply amplify a pre-existing disposition. The world, as a whole, seems to be growing more violent; and, hormone-addled, teenage minds are sucking up the stimuli like a sponge. But, from my view point, it is not the fault of video games alone. And, I'm a little tired of us catching so much of the blame.
What I want to know is, where is our voice?
Video gamers have made an impact on television viewing numbers, brought in sales figuress that rival/surpass the sales figures for blockbuster movies. We're a force to be reckoned with and we don't seem to know it. There's enough of us, why are we allowing big media, congress, etc to bash us without making ourselves more readily heard?
Where are our spokespeople? Who's pointing the finger back at parents when chucklenuts like Deutsch attack our games, then proceed to label and classify us? Video games aren't training kids to be killers any more than movies, tv shows, or the nightly news.
So, here's an abbreviated manifesto. Let's let the networks know, we want FAIR representation, and adequate opportunity to defend ourselves from ignorant, sensationalist, rating whores. We want a balanced approach supported by intelligent, non-biased research.
