World of Warcraft: "Casters are full of...?"

Ok, I have $1000 to spend on 2 computers (my wife's and mine) to get them up to speed. I don't expect to turn them into uber gaming machines but I do want to put them into a good state. A lot of my existing equipment can be ported over as I build my old PCs with the thought of upgrades in the future. What I'd like is some advice/suggestions on what I should get.
Right now both PCs are the following..
1.2 Ghz AMD Athalons
512 megs of PC2200 ram
Gigabyte Motherboard (which TERRASUCKS!)
ATI RADEON 9600 PRO AGP 128MEG video cards (no need to upgrade this at the moment)
Both have fairly new 80 gig hard drives and CD burners so no upgrades are needed in that department either.
So what I'm looking for is a processor, mobo, and ram. My concerns are compatibility and stability.
I'm looking at these 2 options right now but I'm certainly open to more suggestions..
Option 1.
3.0E Intel Pentium 4 Processor
Asus P4P800 Mobo
1 Gig of Corsair 3200 ram
or
Option 2.
AMD 64 3000
ABit KV8 Mobo
1 Gig of Corsair 3200 ram
So.. any thoughts?
