EverQuest: "Chainmail Wedgie"

Why do so many fantasy properties (games, art, books) subscribe to this odd trope? The better the armor the less it covers, but ONLY on female characters. I'm going to blame the chainmail wedgie on Larry Elmore specifically. But, to my credit (if you can call it that), I've talked to Mr. Elmore about this face to face. Let's just say it's hard to teach an old bear new tricks.
