Ninja's in Hiding! ( December 16th, 2004 )
The November Wallpaper isn't ready quite yet.
I know this one is taking me an exceedingly long time to get to, but, it's the last one so...
I've just been so busy with everything else. I'm really sorry about the delay. I will get it to you as soon as possible though. Ask Ted! ( December 14th, 2004 )
Ask Ted a question, and get it answered here at GU.
Ted is an enigma wrapped in a riddled, but enough people seem to associate with him, that I thought I'd give everyone the opportunity to ask Ted questions and get his answers.
If all goes well, this will be a permanent feature at GU. The plan for now, is to have the "Ask Ted" column run once a month with 10-20 questions answered. Questions can be on virtually any topic. So, feel free to fire away. Just send your questions to ted@gucomics.com. Don't forget to include your name, city and state. Finally! ( December 13th, 2004 )
The Vanguard Community Summit writeup is complete.
After dinking off and flaking for two months, struggling to write a non-biased account of what I've seen. I've finally knocked off the glitter of my most recent visit to Sigil, and wrote what I hope is a reasonable contribution to the knowledge base.
And since I know that's innacurate (let's face it, I'm an artist trying to write), I hope my insight will convince you to go and read up on the game yourself. You know, develop your own conclusions and such. In the meantime however, here's the full review. Pocket Kingdom Review ( November 28th, 2004 )
GU takes a look at the first MMO for the N-Gage
The producers of Pocket Kingdom invited me to take a look at their new pint sized MMO. I agreed, so they send me a N-Gage QD game deck and a pre-release copy of the PK game.
To say I enjoyed myself would be an understatement. I was positively addicted. Click Here for the full Review. October Donator Wallpaper Sent ( November 8th, 2004 )
Arr! There be pirates in the email.
A week late as usual, but it's done. The username and passwword infor has been mailed out. Next month's wallpaper image is of ninjas! That should be fun.
And, unless something changes, it will be the last contributor image. I just don't have enough time to dedicate to them any more. So, I'll be taking down the donation bar. It is possible that free wallpapers will be made available from time to time. Don't Understand a Comic? ( November 4th, 2004 )
Comics now linked to the Forum Writeups!
I've been doing writeups on every comic almost as long as GU has been available for public consumption. But, until now, the comic has never been linked to those writeups.
People have been asking for this functionality for quite some time. And, until recently there was no database behind the comics, so I couldn't really meet that need. Now that there is a database, I don't have much of an excuse. So, I coded it into action last night. That being said, the writeups only go back as far as the new forums... around 12/1/2003 Hope you like it. All you have to do is click the comic. Community Call for Assistance ( October 27th, 2004 )
The folks over at Evil Avatar need our help!
As you may know Evil Avatar is one of my primary news sources these days, and they are suffering under high traffic loads. So, they're asking the community to chip in and help them buy the necessary hardware upgrades for their servers. And the way I see it, there's no better way for me to say thanks, than to try to rally the GU community to their cause.
Thanks in advance for anything you can contribute. Halloween Costume Contest '04 ( October 21st, 2004 )
It's that time again!
I missed it last year, but now it's back.
I'll be taking submissions until November 7th. That should give everyone plenty of time after Halloween to get any pictures developed and uploaded. Winners will be announced as soon as possible after the 7th. Grand Prize is an appearance in the comic, original Artwork, and other GU related Goodies. Costumes do not have to be game related, but game related costumes will get preferential treatment. And all you have to do is send your submissions to: Halloween@GUComics.Com Please make sure to let me know if you would prefer me not to post your costume image after the contest is finished. October Donator Image... FINALLY! ( October 15th, 2004 )
Arrr! Thar be Pirates!
In response to Friday's comic (10/15), I got a good handful of emails suggesting this month's contributor wallpaper be Pirate Oriented. And, since I hadn't decided yet what it would be... this sounds to me like a fantastic idea. And for you Ninja lovers, I'll make sure November's image will be Ninja oriented.
GU Downtime: All Done ( October 7th, 2004 )
The move is complete!
UPDATE:
The server switch is completed much to the benefit of the GU site. WWW.GUForums.Com is now an active URL as well. The address will redirect you to forums.gucomics.com, so you don't have to worry about any cookie issues. GU is moving to a new server to help with some of the issues we've been registering lately. I received the following info from Aidden at the Safehouse regarding the move: On Sunday night, October 10th, at 10pm Pacific time, the gucomics.com site will be down for a server upgrade. This includes both the comics pages as well as the forums. We expect the delay to be less than hour, but due to DNS propagation issue you may experience outages upwards of 4 hours. This move is a response to increased demands on the GU server recently. We are making ever attempt to bring you a higher class of service and provide a more stable platform for the gucomics.com site. Please be aware that due to an IP address change involved with the server move, your cookies related to the GU forums, will need to be deleted This will cause you to have to re-login to the forums. Along with this it is likely you will lose your list of ?Unread messages? This will correct itself automatically as the new Cookie is established on your system. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the upgrade process. ~ Aidden @ the Safehouse Anarchy Online Giveaway! ( September 17th, 2004 )

August Donator Image Info Sent ( September 10th, 2004 )
The big projects are done, FINALLY.
The images have been uploaded an the username/password info has been sent.
Again let me apologize for the excessive wait. I wasn't expecting the extremely rushed DAoC order. The turn around time was pretty brutal for me, and I had to find time somewhere and the donation image completion time suffered. I think the image came out pretty well, so, I hope you can forgive me. Best Wishes for Scotty! ( September 8th, 2004 )
Today's Comic (9/8) is about a Star Trek related Online Game! Click Here to Read More!
Perpetual Entertainment has been drafted to develop and publish a Massively Multiplayer Online Game based on the Star Trek franchise.
Click Here for More Info! That being said, hopefully folks will see that today's comic (9/8) is not meant in any ways as a slight to Mr. Doohan (Scotty). The comic is meant to harken back to the old days of Star Trek before any health issues. Mr. Doohan has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers and Parkinsons Disease. So, some people have, understandably, taken exception to the "afk" and "linkdead" references in the strip. BUT, The comic is a demonstration of our rememberence of the original episodes. And, I really don't believe it should be looked at with some kind of comparative parallel. I don't feel comfortable that someone might mistake the intention or meaning behind the comic. But, I hope this news item helps explain the reasons the comic was posted and lets you know that I had no idea beforehand that Mr. Doohan was ill. I honestly regret the timing of the comic, but I don't regret the content of the comic itself. The best wishes of the GU community and I go out to Mr. Doohan and his family. September Donation Image ( September 7th, 2004 )
Vhah returns to your desktop.
People have been asking about the next installment of the Storyline comics featuring Vhah. Well, I haven't had time to develop the idea lately. I've just been too busy.
So, following a post on the forums about it, someone sent me an email suggesting that I do another Vhah image. **shrugs** I figure... why not? So, September's donator image will be of the sketchy storyline Vhah in a nice action packed desktop image. Donator Wallpaper will be Late! ( September 1st, 2004 )
Sorry about the inconvenience! UPDATED (9/9)
UPDATE: (9/9)
I finished up the SafeHouse and DAoC shirts yesterday, and have finally gotten the sketch taken care of. It'll be inked tonight, colored tomorrow. And probably be ready tomorrow night or early Saturday. GU had to very large commissions to finish up here at the end of August, beginning of September. One (the one delaying the wallpaper) was a last minute rush order. As soon as I have it finished, I will get the desktop image out to you guys. I really am sorry about the delay. Story-Line Comics ( August 3rd, 2004 )
Why is today's (8/3) GU not funny?
If you hit the forums, you can see my write up on why I went this direction with the comic. Here's a link: GU Forums: Trying Something New (8/3).
Quickly, I just wanted to change things up a bit. I've wanted to do story-type comic for a very very long time now. The original attempt was way back at the Computer/Toaster series of comics. "The Adventures of Vhah" will be a bit more serious, and more story driven than humor driven. I'm still trying to decide on the style, direction, and frequency of these comics. Your input in the thread linked above would be appreciated. August Donator Image ( August 3rd, 2004 )
Woody's take on "The Predator".
I know it won't be everyone's favorite desktop image. But, I've always been a big fan of the Predators. They're just freakin' cool.
So, since Alien vs. Predator is coming out soon, and because I think it'll be really fun to draw. I can't wait to start working on this one. And, I'll probably tease you guys with a preliminary image of it as soon as I can. The image in the donator bar is NOT part of the actual image. I just quick sketched and rough colored it until I have something more definate. I honestly hope you guys will like it as much as me. **shrugs and grins** July Contributor Image Info Sent ( August 2nd, 2004 )
Didn't hit 100% last month, but the image turned out nice. Hope your guys like it.
Archives Searchable by Game ( August 1st, 2004 )
It's still kind of low key; but, it works.
People have been asking for this since GU started producing comics about games other than EQ. And, for some reason, each of the 8000+ people thought they were the first to mention the "idea".
Well, now it's finally here. It's very low key with no frills to speak of. But, it does what people asked for. And that is to search comics by the game they're based on. At any rate, the link has been added to all of the archive pages, and you can get to it directly by Clicking Here! Solo Content: A Chat with Brenlo ( July 26th, 2004 )
An hour long discussion with Alan Crosby.
July 23rd I spent an hour or so talking with Brenlo to get a more definate SOE outlook on the state of solo content in EQ for those of us that only have a very short amnount of time to play.
The answer seems to be the Task System. But there are drawbacks to that plan. You can find the Chat Transcript here: http://www.gucomics.com/news/solo_chat_transcript.php And, you can find more info including my interpretation of the transcript here: http://forums.gucomics.com/viewtopic.php?p=69591#69591 GU Shirts Are Back! ( July 19th, 2004 )
When Spiritual left EQ Druids the GU shirts went with him. I'd hoped he would continue producing them out of his new printing house, but that wasn't meant to be.
It took months of searching, but I finally found someone who would pick up the reigns and continue to offer high quality GU items at a reasonable cost. That someone is Offline Tshirts! You can find them Here! IMPORTANT! Commission Information... ( July 9th, 2004 )
Dissolution of the current commission que. Click Here to read more!
It's no secret that the commission que is drastically behind. I just can't answer requests as quickly as they come in. So, some people have been waiting quite a long time, and have heard NOTHING from me.
The problem I face right now, is that I can't send out emails to all of the hundreds of people that have asked, letting them know they need to mail me again if they are still interested. So, what I'm going to have to do, is to dissolve the current commission que and start from scratch. I've got someone who is willing to help me organize it now. So, every email should be answered as they come in to give you a quote, and tell you where you stand in the new commission que. I do apologize. It's been hard trying to handle them alone. It shouldn't be a problem now though. So, if you're still interested email me at ! And, I'll try to get you taken care of.Ursula Vernon on GU ( July 9th, 2004 )
Ooo Ooo! Nifty Artwork!
Ursula Vernon was brought to my attention via a good friend. A little wheeling and dealing to mutual benefit and now she's got two nifty banners up on GU for a bit.
One of the banners is a link to Ursula's artwork which is incredible. The other is a link to her comic 'Digger' which involves swashbuckling, high adventure, and a wombat! Can't ask for much more than that. So, go and check out her work. I don't think you'll regret it. June Contributor Info Sent ( July 7th, 2004 )
Did that yesterday; forgot to mention it. Whoops.
After redrawing and recoloring image, I finally sent all the info out yesterday afternoon. Just forgot to mention it. Whoopsy!
And the WoW Beta Winners are... ( July 6th, 2004 )
5 of 3500+ WoW Beta Entries Chosen.
Derek Scollon of Maple Ridge, BC; Ron Giles of Pekin, IL; Kathleen O'Nan of Los Angeles,CA; Don Brown of Colorado Springs, CO; and, Sarah Borming of Ottawa, Ontario.
Thanks everyone for participating. Sorry you couldn't all win. There were well over 3500 entries, which was trimmed down to 3140 as per the rules. And what did I learn from the submissions? · A lot of people forget to change the name that is passed along in the "From field" when trying to scam with multiple addresses. · I've got a LOT of fans in Canada! **grins** · More people than I'd care to admit "love me", want to "love me long time", or are prepared to try to bribe me, especially with GMail accounts. Thanks again everyone who submitted entries. WoW Beta Giveaway (7/5 UPDATE) ( July 5th, 2004 )
No longer accepting Entries!
:: UPDATE :: (7/5)
The time for submitting entries has come and gone. I am shutting down the email address, removing double emails and submissions that violate the rules. I'll let everyone know who won as soon as I know myself. Donna (Katricia) Anthony, over at Blizzard, has given GU 5 North America Beta slots to give away. All you have to do is live somewhere in North America (that's US or Canada), not currently be in WoW Beta, and email me your full name, FULL mailing address*, and phone number. Entries will be accepted until Noon PST July 5th. Winner will be announced as soon as possible after that deadline! Rules: Only one entry per household. Multiple entries from the same address, or entries from outside of North America, will be disqualified. Personal information will not be used for any purpose outside of the requirements of this contest. * "FULL Mailing address" means your street, city, state, and zip code. :: UPDATE :: (7/2) I'm going to be gone over the weekend of the fourth and won't be back until Monday the 5th. So, I'm going to leave the entry email open until I get back. I'll post winners absolutely as soon as possible after I get back. :: UPDATE :: (5/30) In response to the 1500+ entries Blizzard has given GU 2 additional accounts to hand out, bringing the total to 5. July Donation Image? ( July 2nd, 2004 )
July Donation Image = the Evil Money-Eating Robots!
Everyone seems to like the EMERs, so I decided the July will be their month. Should be really fun to draw.
June Donator Delay ( July 2nd, 2004 )
Because I'm not happy with it...
I'm not happy with how the EQ/Shrek2 tribute came out. So, I'm going to redraw and recolor it. I'm sorry for the delay, but trust me, it wasn't living up to the quality of previous desktops and I don't want to short-change you guys.
I will be gone over the holiday weekend and won't be back until monday. I'll be redrawing the image while I'm away, and will turn it into a desktop as soon as I get back. EQ Guide Program wants YOU! ( June 30th, 2004 )
Changes to the Goals of the EQ Guide program!
With changes to the goal of the EQ Guide Program, SOE is looking for new Guides to step in and fill value roles that will encourage player interaction with SOE staff and volunteers, roleplaying, quests, events, etc.
Now is your chance to influence the game in a more meaningful way. For more Info: Click Here! OffLine T-Shirts at GU Comics! ( June 29th, 2004 )
OffLine T-Shirts is the future home GU Comics!
OffLine T-shirts is the future home of GU apparel. And, there's quite a bit of nifty gear over there. So click the tower ad and go check out their stuff.
Split Reason at GU Comics! ( June 13th, 2004 )
A few months ago, I stumbled across Split Reason and the first thing I saw was their Kill Bill t-shirt. After I got permission, I started using Split Reason design on the Woody and Ted characters in the comic strip.
It's some pretty funny stuff there, and I thought it would be the kind of advertising you guys might actually like. So, take a minute and click the tower ad up there. I know you'll find some stuff you like! GU Website Redesign! ( June 13th, 2004 )
To keep pace with GU's growth, the site had to go through some changes.
GU is undergoing some growing pains. And part of that growth is meeting the needs of my advertisers who requested Tower ad availability on the GU site. So, since none of the web designers I contacted got back to me with a quote in time, I took it upon myself to redesign the site.
Now, the task of putting a tower ad on the site was that they tended to take away from the comic itself. But, with a color shift, and some semi-clever layout work, the average user still sees the comic first, and THAT's the goal. Hopefully everyone can live with the changes. I think it brings something new to the table without straying too wildly from the original GU design. EDITTED TO ADD: There are portions on this site that have not been updated yet. I apologize for the weirdness and confusion of it. I'm just really busy, and doing as much of it as I can as I find the time needing to get the tower ad rushed the project a bit. Please bear with me. THANKS! SOE Guild Summit Write-Up! ( June 8th, 2004 )
Now available for viewing. Click Here!
Well, I wrote and wrote and wrote on the full account, and realized that If I finished that version you guys would be waiting for another week. So, I drilled down to the core of the event itself.
The meat & potatoes version of the Summit is here: SOE Guild Summit: Meat & Potatoes You'll see that my mindset going into the even was less that "loving", but I came out positive about the direction and upcoming changes to the game. I'm not trying to tell anyone not to be skeptical. But, there's a LOT to look forward to. May Desktop Image Sent! ( June 3rd, 2004 )
A couple days late; but, I think you'll like it.
Again, sorry it was so late. I blame "the Move" for it, of course. Hopefully, it's a good enough image to have been worth your wait. At the very least, I enjoyed drawing it.
June Desktop Announced! ( June 3rd, 2004 )
And, it's an Everquest homage to Shrek2!
Since so many people have seen and enjoyed Shrek2, I've decided to do an homage to it using Everquest Characters. This should be a fun one.
Access to May Donation Image LATE? ( June 2nd, 2004 )
I apologize for the delay on delivering the image. I just let myself get overwhelmed by the move and am running a tad behind. I hope to have the donation image ready for you all by tomorrow (6/3).
NO NEW COMICS UNTIL TUESDAY (6/1)! ( May 27th, 2004 )
Well, I'm moving AGAIN! **grins** It's another BIG one. But, I'm excited. Everything should be back up and operational by next Tuesday (6/1). Honestly I'm hoping for Monday, but... no garauntees. I want to enjoy the trip, not just rush it like last time.
See ya then! EQ Community: Call-to-Arms! ( May 26th, 2004 )
Today's Comic, along with it's corresponding write-up is a request for the EQ community to band together and, by boycotting Omens of War, insight change in the game we love so much.
I won't go into great detail in this post, as enough has been said in the write-up. So, I ask that you head on over to THIS THREAD and read what some of the people in our community feel about the rushed OoW expansion, in the face of lingering bugs and gameplay issues. Thread: Money grubbin'... (5/26) Tax Drive tops 100%! ( May 6th, 2004 )
The tax goal has now been surpassed and I'd like to thank everyone that donated, or purchased a panel. Heck, I even got some tax advice and business planning assistance in my inbox during the drive.
Now, I still owe a little over half of the tax bill, as the money that's reported on the tax drive also includes the regular monthly donations that go toward my personal bills. But, I'm still very happy with the outcome. Anytime I need help you guys seem to rally around me and keep my faith alive. I really appreciate it. Now, even with the donations going to my own bills, there IS almost enough money there to pay off the tax bill, but I'm on the cusp of moving AGAIN, so I'm saving my funds for that. No! There won't be a "I'm moving" drive. I've asked you guys for enough. You've done an excellent job of taking care of your artist. Thanks a ton! May Donation Image! ( May 1st, 2004 )
Inspired by the recent release of City of Heroes and the reader responseto the reoccurring super character in recent strips (no name yet), May's desktop image will be of our super character's having a little fun.
April Wallpaper Info Sent ( May 1st, 2004 )
Well, I just sent off the information April Contributors will need in order to download the Julie Vance Wallpaper. There were so many donators this month that I had to send out two seperate emails.
And, since you guys topped the 100% mark, John R. won the original artwork! Congratulations John. Your donation just got you the sexiest wallpaper image YET. Attention Hotmail & Yahoo Donators! Sex Sales Desktop Image ( April 30th, 2004 )
Just wanted to inform everyone that Today, Friday April 30th, is the last day to donate for the "Sex Sales" desktop image. Usually, I wouldn't mention this, but there seems to be so much interest in it that I felt I should say SOMETHING.
At any rate, the desktop is of Julie Vance (Woody's answer to Lara Croft). And the desktop won't look much like the donation bar. I have far sexier things in mind. Like I said... "Sex Sales". THANKS to everyone who has donated thus far! You wanted an Original Panel? ( April 7th, 2004 )
So many emails have come in on so many different subjects, that some panel requests have been lost in the muck. My only hope is to get you to mail me again with your requests. Now, in order not to lose them again, I'm asking that you put "Panel Request" in the subject line.
Just send an email to Thanks folks. I apologize for the inconvenience. March Wallpaper Info Sent ( April 1st, 2004 )
Well, I just sent off the information March Contributors will need in order to download the Necro Wallpaper. I'm really happy with the outcome; so, I hope you guys like it. And, since you guys topped the 100% mark, Julianna B. won the original artwork! Congratulations Julianna.
Attention Hotmail & Yahoo Donators! GU T-Shirts Return ( April 1st, 2004 )
After an exhaustive search of the net, a trustworthy printer was found in my own backyard... so to speak. Fricka, the Elegant Rogue, from Offline T-Shirts (who also just happens to be a fan of the strip) will be handling the new GU Shirts. And, I'm pretty durn happy with that.
Right now, everything is still in the works. Meaning, I still need to get the graphics to her, but, they'll be available soon enough. Until then, hop on over to Offline T-Shirts. Browse around, find some stuff you like, and be sure to tell her Woody sent ya! The State of Commissions! ( March 10th, 2004 )
There is currently a HUGE backlog of commission requests (several months), and I am trying to get to them as quickly as I can. So, please be patient. getting aggitated and sending multiple emails does not get me to your commission any quicker.
I respond to your requests in the order that they were mailed to me. I am trying hard to catch up. Right now it's just not going as quickly as I hoped. I'm getting a lot of 2, 3, and 4 person requests and those eat up a LOT more time than is quoted. Again, I'm begging for your patience. Tax Relief Drive - Original Panels for Sale! ( March 6th, 2004 )
More than $2846 (100%) has been collected thus far (Monthly Donations Included). Well, I had my taxes done. And, well, Federal and State taxes added up to $2846. **sighs** Federal Tax ... $2464 Illinois State Tax ... $203 Massachusetts State Tax ... $179 ($601 1st Quarter Estimated Tax not included) So, in order to soften the blow, I'm going to be selling off the original panels for some of the GU strips. Not all panels will be available because some have been given away and others are reserved for commercial purposes. So be sure to include more than one choice. They'll be sold on a first come first serve basis. So, if you're interested in a panel email me at Please keep in mind that the original artwork is NOT colored, and does NOT have any text on it. Payments will be accepted through PayPal only. Please make sure the address associated with your PayPal account is current/accurate. My Kingdom for a T-Shirt! ( March 6th, 2004 )
GU T-shirts have moved from CafePress, to RPGWear, to EQDruids... and now they're looking for another new home. The shirts are currently without a provider.
I am looking specifically for a printer than can do Dye Sublimation on SoftL'Ink t-shirts. If you or someone you know is a printer than can meet the needs of GUComics feel free to email me at New News Format! ( March 6th, 2004 )
I haven't really been able to incorporate as much news as I would like to. So without completely reformatting the site, I thought I might give this a shot. I just hope it works!
March Donation Image! ( March 3rd, 2004 )
Unless something changes, March's donation image will be a Necro raising his undead minions.
Attention Hotmail & Yahoo Donators! ( March 3rd, 2004 )
Didn't get the desktop download info?
Hotmail and Yahoo email users please take note! Recently I've been flooded with emails from donators with Hotmail and Yahoo accounts that are missing the download info. It seems that the Info email is getting blocked by your spam filters. Please make sure to set
GU's visit to Sigil! ( January 12th, 2004 )
I recently paid a visit to Sigil Games to see what they're up to, and to get a look at the game they're working so diligently on.
Well, with some assistance from Brad... The writeup of my visit is now complete. You can give it a read here! Further discussion of the writeup can be found in the GU Forums: HERE! The New Year! ( January 1st, 2004 )
Well, the New Year is upon us; and, as always, I am running behind. **sighs**

Congrats Jason W. on winning the original artwork. Everyone else, SORRY about the spam! Had a problem with my email. January's donator image is "Ted and the Monkey". The image on the bar is NOT the actual desktop image. |
