GU Going on Hiatus ( July 17th, 2001 )
Maybe it's boredom, maybe it's "responsibilities", maybe it's thecounter.com shutting down my stats; but, I'm just not "in the mood" to do GU right now. Dig through the archives, enjoy what's already there. I appreciate all the support and the visits, and I WILL BE BACK. The only question is when.
Goodies, Goodies, Goodies... ( June 27th, 2001 )
Now available for purchase... Signed T-shirts (only 13 available), Coloring Books (limited run), Original Panels (first come first serve). Did I mention the GU Mousepads I made a couple of weeks ago?
I'd like to say that I'm doing all this because I hit 7Million page views, but that's not the truth. I have some t-shirts and coloring books left over from the Fan Faire, and a stack of original panels, that I'd like to see go to good homes. Making it CLEAR... ( June 13th, 2001 )
I just feel that this has to be said, I do not hate Verant. And for the most part, I think they do a fine job. There are instances where they slip and do something kooky, or take something a little too far. Those are instances that I must leap upon to make jokes. Those are the instances that hover in the minds of the players. And the players demand to "see" what I think about the situation.
The crew at Verant have a thick skin, and are nice people to boot. And, they don't take me any where near as seriously as some of you readers do. I admire those guys for what they have accomplished with EQ, despite the fact that I like to pick on them when they fumble a little bit. I'm always going to say things that offend someone in the crowd, and I'll probably never learn to pull my punches. I just have to hope that many of you will take what I say the same way Verant does... with a grain of salt. It IS just a joke after all. Registration Closed... BUT!!! ( June 5th, 2001 )
Registration for the Minneapolis Fan Faire is "officially" closed, but there will be limited room for some walk-in registrations. If you plan on paying at the door, send an email to fanfaire@station.sony.com. Include your real name, your station name, and the names of the people going with you. You'll need to pay $90 at the door (be prepared to pay in cash), and they'll need to see a photo ID.
NOTE: you will NOT receive a printed name tag, but you get all other benefits. New T-shirt... ( June 3rd, 2001 )
"I claim this Twink..." is now a t-shirt! A lot of you have been asking for this one for a while, so here it is. You'll notice that my store has changed a bit too. This is so GU will stay in line with future CafePress code advancement. These changes provide an editable shopping cart for easier ordering.
Haven't registered for the Fan Faire yet? Do it now! Before all the spots are gone. Viva Las Vegas! ( May 14th, 2001 )
The Las Vegas trip is upon me. We leave out first thing tomorrow morning, but no worries, I've already done all the strips for this week.
And for those of you interested in meeting me. I'll be wandering around GameWorks on Wednesday the 16th, from 2 until around 5 or so. Then, I'll be heading over to Excalibur for diner at 6. Closer! Closer I tell you! ( May 9th, 2001 )
The Fan Faire in Minneapolis is half sold out! You've only got a little over two weeks so REGISTER NOW. Cindy tells me that Verant ALWAYS gets a ton of email after all the spaces for the Fan Faire are gone, and there's nothing she can do about it. So, go ahead and SIGN UP. I'll be there with bells on... no wait... I hate bells. I'll be there with... uhmm... Shoes on. Yeah! Shoes.
Register for the Fan Faire. [ link removed ] Linking to a GU Near you! ( May 7th, 2001 )
EQDiva.Com has been up for while. And if you're an EQ bard, you're gonna love this place. Kocho, Divah, the webmistress over there, has put together a great site, with LOADS of info, and links to GU in the humor section. Go pay a visit. Bard or not, it's worth the click.
http://www.eqdiva.com/ Foos IS NOT Fooz! ( April 27th, 2001 )
Yup! You heard me right. It has come to my attention that a Guide on Tholuxe Paells has been getting /tell spammed by loyal GU readers. And, by startling coincidence, the poor guy is a Gnome Warrior. So please... leave him be. I repeat Fooz the Huggable is not Foos, the Black Lab of Doom™.
Hey GU Fans... ( April 20th, 2001 )
Meet me at the next EQ Fan Faire! I'll be there behind a big table, with a large GU Banner above my head. Kinda hard to miss! Here's some info you'll need.
The Minneapolis Fan Faire will be held on June 15-16. Registration is now open!! Verant expects this event to sell out, so don't wait. Reserve your spot and your room now!! For more information or to register, CLICK HERE! [ link removed ] GU passes 5 MILLION ( April 19th, 2001 )
That's right... GUComics has reached 5 million page views. And as always I'm putting together a little something to show my appreciation. A second set of Sig Pics have been created. Hopefully I've put together a few more images that will suit those of you who've been HOUNDING me in email.
THANKS for helping GU hit 5 Million. GU SigPic Group II Comic Spotlight: Little Gamers ( April 17th, 2001 )
Little Gamers by Christian Fundin and Pontus Madsen, in short, rocks! And you guys know damn well that when I find something this porn*. I have to share it with you. Oh, it may seem cute on the surface, but it's got foul language, ass kicking, and ninjas dammit! NINJAS I tell you!
Go see for yourself!!! http://www.little-gamers.com/ Greystone Inn to appear in Print ( April 15th, 2001 )
Thanks to the you guys and the readers of several other online comics, Greystone Inn by Brad Guigar, will now be appearing in the Philadephia Daily News. Greystone Inn took a whopping 85% of the online vote. Brad and I both would like to thank all the GU fans that voted.
In other news... be on the lookout for GU/Fallen Age giveaways. Prizes will include: T-Shirts, Necklaces, FA Beta slots, etc. What I do know about the future of Evercrest! ( April 12th, 2001 )
EverCrest is down indefinitely. Tim "Drysart" Fries is working diligently to make Fallen Age the next "BIG THING" and hasn't really had time to update the site lately. I talked with Tim recently about the future of Evercrest. I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to tell. But, Read More on what I do know. and Leave Evercrest a farewell message here!
Like I said above, I'm not sure what I am and am not supposed to say about the future of Evercrest. But, I will tell you what I know and hope Tim's ok with it. We spoke a bit about it on IRC about a week ago I think. And nothing was definate. Tim talked about making the strip fantasy oriented, but never being the Evercrest we know. I imagine that would include a name change. He also mentioned expanding the concept behind the strip to include the entire gaming industry. That fits in with what he's doing right now. I fully understand the need to take time away in order to get real work done. I also know that it had to be a tough decision. I for one will miss the cast and crew at Evercrest, and I'm positive I'm not alone. But, let's support Tim in his new endeavor, let him know that we're behind him and want him to be happy. The best way to do that, is to... SIGN UP FOR FALLEN AGE BETA! In the end... We'll all look back with fondness and sadness on the passing of Evercrest. It was as much a part of the game as banded armor and shouts for SOW, for most of us. And I know I wouldn't have seen the level of success this strip enjoys without the help and support of Evercrest. Help me say bye to Drysart... Leave Evercrest A Farewell Message Here! [ link removed ] Fallen Age Beta. Hurry! ( April 6th, 2001 )
The date is quickly approaching! Fallen Age will SOON go into beta testing (5/21), and you have the opportunity to be in on it. Our old friend Tim "Drysart" Fries, of EverCrest fame, is one of the many talented people working on this new MMORPG. That's reason enough to want to see it do well, but have you see the graphics? Go now! Sign up for Beta! You've got nothing to lose, and you might get lucky! It's your world now!
SIGN UP FOR FALLEN AGE BETA! [ link removed ] Sleeper's Tomb Raider ( April 4th, 2001 )
Tribute, homage, drool? I'm not sure, I never played any of the Tomb Raider® games, but who DOESN'T know who Lara Croft is? Anyway I was sent this idea, and I thought it was funny, but just for clarities sake... there is a thumbnail of the original movie poster to the right here.
Support your local Greystone Inn! ( April 3rd, 2001 )
Our friend over at Greystone Inn, Brad Guigar, is currently on the path to getting published. He's in a fight with sevearal other cartoonist to have his strip published in the Philadelphia Daily News. But, he needs our help to make the vote as one-sided as possible.
So take a moment and... Go VOTE for our Pal Brad! [ link removed ] Red Eyes, Smelly Clothes, and No GU Tomorrow! ( April 3rd, 2001 )
Today is my wife's birthday, and one of the things slated for this evening is a brief road trip to see one of her favorite bands... Godsmack. Now, it's just pure blind luck that they happen to be playing ON HER BIRTHDAY. But, there was another LARGER problem: I don't really like Godsmack. Of course I'd go 'cause it was a birthday request, but then I got lucky. I read who else was playing. Staind is opening for Godsmack. Okay... that I can handle.
What all this boils down to is... I may not get back home this evening with enough time to get a strip up for tomorrow. If not, I'll post the strip Thursday, or as soon as I can finish it Wednesday. If you feel all froggy and wanna say Happy Birthday to Liz... JUST POST YOUR MESSAGE HERE, and I'll be sure she reads it. [ link removed ] Foos the Gnome Warrior... ( March 30th, 2001 )
That's right... Danfoos, the Black Lab of Death, finally reveals his race, class, and affection for gnolls. (Don't ask, it's kinda icky!) He's a Gnome Warrior and he's not ashamed to admit it. He knows he'll draw more attention to one of the most underplayed, funniest, combos in the game. I hope the other Gnome Warriors out there appreciate his effort!
Foos is a Gnome Warrior? Are you sure? READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE. [ link removed ] GU HiJacked by Robert Jordan! ( March 27th, 2001 )
Well Kinda... because of the very short amount of time I have to read each night, it takes me forever to read through the hundreds and hundreds of pages in each and every Robert Jordan Wheel of Time book. I'm only on the second one, but last night I was compelled to throw all else aside to read as much as I could, thus, no comic today. What I'm wondering now is...
Should I just start doing only 3 strips a week? VOICE YOUR OPINION HERE. [ link removed ] GU tops 4 Million !!! ( March 20th, 2001 )
That's right! Just a month ago I was hitting 3M, and now I'm up to 4. I'm happy and to celebrate, I've made you all a GU Skin for your Winamp Player. I'm not sure how many of you are computer freaks and net nerds like me, but it seems every computer I see has Winamp on it. So, I threw together a GU Skin and now you can download it and have a really sweet Winamp Player. YEAH RIGHT! Okay, here's how to get it...
GU_SKIN DOWNLOAD & INSTRUCTIONS [ link removed ] Oh the Swervosity!!! ( March 14th, 2001 )
I just got the slickest thing in my email box. And, I'm gonna share it with all of you. The very talented, Mr. Scott Thigpen of Demise Comics, has drawn me a piece of fan art. Now this pic was so cool I had to create a new section just to house it! Now there are a bunch of talented artists on my message boards... so I don't want this image to be lonely. And as for Scott and Demise Comics, help me send him my thanks by paying him a visit. TRUST ME! You'll enjoy it!
http://www.demisecomics.com/ The Word of Puppy! ( March 12th, 2001 )
I now have an 8 week old puppy chewing up everything in my house, including my feet. I am certain that I don't have the time or the patience to deal with this animal, but if I don't my wife may kill me and feed me to the black beast that has taken over our home... a.k.a. FOOS, the Black Lab Pup of Doom. With constant super-vision required, and less than three hours of sleep a night gained, I fear the comics may falter in regularity over the next few weeks. Why does crate training have to be so difficult?
GU, Jumpto, and Vegas ( March 5th, 2001 )
Okay so I was away for a bit. But, did you guys really miss me for the week and three days I was away? Actually it was a week and three days since the last strip, but who's counting? JUMPTO is a new function of the archives, which will let you put in the date you want to "jump to" on the archive calendar. Now as for Vegas, I'm going on a little trip there in May, and if there is enough response... we might be able to swing a get together. More info coming.
Talk about it HERE. GU still down. T-shirt prices go up. ( February 28th, 2001 )
As of March 1st the base prices on t-shirts is moving up from $10.99 to $13.99. Whatever money I tack onto that base price is mine. I was adding $4 to make each shirt about $15, not including shipping and handling. Well, this increase in price, if I want to make the same amount off of each shirt, is going to drive the t-shirts up to $17.99. Just thought you all should know.
Read more about GU's down time HERE. [ link removed ] Check out Greystone Inn! ( February 22nd, 2001 )
During the debate and discussion over the Berke Breathed Interview at PVP an artist by the name of Brad Guigar posted on the board. Brad has such a clean, finished, and professional style it just screamed to be the next spotlight. Greystone Inn is a cartoon about a group of cartoon characters acting in a cartoon strip. It's great!
http://www.greystoneinn.net/ Comic Spotlight Dammit! ( February 19th, 2001 )
A while back I kept getting this hit in my referrer list, when I went to check it out I saw this very dig-able comic strip called Angst Technology by Barry Smith. Since that time it's become HOT HOT HOT. And you guys should not miss it. He's got IT ninjas in the tech department for chrissake! Now go and check it! Show him the GU love!
http://www.inktank.com/ GU hits 3 Million ( February 11th, 2001 )
Thanks all for the support and stuff! Since GU really got out there in August the people I've met and the emails I've received have been wonderful. But, this isn't where we stop, ther are plenty more things to make fun of. I'll keep drawing if you keep coming. Thanks everyone! Especially Drysart at Evercrest!
As mentioned in the news posts: · Free Sig Pics · Wallpapers · New T-Shirt Say Hi to us on the Message Boards! "Candy Ass" T-Shirts! ( February 11th, 2001 )
The newest GU T-shirt is now available. After the last vote, this was the most requested shirt, behind nerf necros. So I figured it was next in line. If there are other GU panels you would like to see made into T-Shirts feel free to email me and tell me about it.
Be sure to check out the recently added GU SigPicsand GU Wallpapers. They are free for you to use. Enjoy! GU SigPics Group I ( February 10th, 2001 )
Yup, the first set of GU sigpics have been posted. They are completely random and many of you are not going to find what you are looking for right off. Other sigpic groups will follow, as well as alternate colorings of the current group. Use them as you see fit. Feel free to let me know what you think of them. Specific requests will be considered, but not garaunteed.
GU SigPics Group I And don't forget about the GU Wallpapers. GU Panels Wallpaper ( February 8th, 2001 )
You asked for it, so now you can set GU panels like you see in the background of the 2/7/01 strip as your desktop wallpaper. There are two versions REGULAR and UNLEADED. I personally think UNLEADED is easier to use. The colors are not as intense. To use them check out the instructions below.
On a further note, I'll be releasing some standardized images for use as sig pics sometime within the next week or so. Email me to let me know which race/class you'd like to see. INSTRUCTIONS: (Windows only)
From here you might want to go to the "Appearance" Tab and change some of your item colors. You'll probably want to establish a pretty dark color pallet to constrast with the light-colored, tiled, panels. When I get a few extra moments, I'll put together a .theme file that'll do all this stuff for you. Macintosh Users: (Thanks Kraig!!) Download the picture to a location that you can remember. Go to the apple in the upper left corner of the monitor, click, go down to control panels, click "Appearance". Next, click the "Desktop" tab in the open window, and click "Place Picture" from there, browse to locate the picture file and click "Set Desktop". The tiling is controlled by an option on the same panel as the one in which "place picture" and "set desktop" are located. The available options are... tile on screen, center on screen, scale to screen, and fill screen. So, the position and behavior and up to the user. Thanks Kraig Solomon for the Mac Instructions! Other Wallpapers: I only have one other wallpaper (sample to the right). I have it for 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions. You can get them both in the fhe following Zip file. [ link removed ] (216K) Both images are .BMP files. You should extract them to an easy to find location. Once you extract them:
AGAIN, you might want to go to "Appearances" and change your item colors. I use "Windows Standard" with the Destop color set to Black. Slam the Panda! ( February 8th, 2001 )
Since GU might be down for a couple more days, I'd like to request a favor. I call it "SLAMMING THE PANDA". The express intent is to show the comic strips over at BigPanda what GU Viewers are made of. Here's what you do: Click the Big Panda link, then visit any one of the comics. Read it. Come back here. And, do it again. Feel free to stop at any time. It is your computer after all. **grins** BUT! There are a lot of good comics there, and I'm sure you'll find a few you like.
http://www.bigpanda.net/ Another Comic Spotlight! ( February 5th, 2001 )
I bumped into a phenominal artist and all around funny guy, Lee Herold, An unsung cult icon in the making, the artist of Chopping Block. If you're like me... you're gonna love this. With contact paper, india ink, an X-acto knife, and an orange "E"-shaped sponge, Lee has managed to create a thrilling comic strip starring Butch... a hockey-masked mass murderer.
