The GU Fanflow ( November 3rd, 2009 )
Bonus Content for just a few bucks a month. It's worth it, I promise.
A while back I saw this thing called a Fanflow. Basically it's a service to allow readers to access bonus content by way of a subscription. I liked the idea but hadn't pulled the trigger. But now the groundwork has been laid. Some assets have been uploaded, and the GU Fanflow is ready for subscribers.

I'll be using the fanflow to upload wallpaper graphics, non-GU artwork, videos of me working, tutorials by request, etc. You'll also be able to talk with me and other fanflow subscribers about the fanflow assets. I'll be asking the subscribers what they'd like to see next. And if the response is really strong my intention is to provide a bonus comic or two per month.

You can access a free preview here:

GU Fanflow - Free Preview

But if you want to get at the goodies, you'll have to subscribe.

The price per month is set at $3.

I really hope you guys are into this kind of idea. We'll see how it goes.

Women's Roller Derby ( October 14th, 2009 )
Taks' team is headed to Nationals.
Recently Taks started practicing with the Denver Roller Dolls in the hopes of one day joining one of their teams. As luck would have it the Denver Roller Dolls have earned the right to go the 2009 WFTDA* National Tournament, Declaration of Derby in Philadelphia, November 13-15. One little catch, the Denver Roller Dolls are a non profit organization and they need a hand with some of their expenses.

What they've done is set up a list of their needs. What I'm asking is that, if you've got a few extra bucks laying around and would like to help out some hot athletic chicks on skates that measure 'good times' in body checks delivered to other hot athletic chicks on skates while they zip around a track, pick something on the list and give it (or multiple its) as a gift to the team.

Click Here to Send a Gift

If you're within driving distance of Denver, include a note with your gift(s) that you'd like to be entered into the drawing for tickets to the Denver Roller Dolls' final home bout of the season (Sat. Oct. 24th). For each $30 worth of gifts you send you'll get one chance at a pair of tickets for the bout.

I'll be doing a wallpaper image to say thanks for supporting the Denver Roller Dolls. And I hope all of you will join me in cheering them on.

---

If you don't know anything Women's Roller Derby, I encourage you to go watch Whip It! in theaters right now. Though if you're interested in watching real matches you can dig through the BoutCast Archives at the Derby News Network. The Derby Nationals will be streamed live on DNN if you'd like to watch the ladies you're supporting.

If you have any questions about Women's Roller Derby, the nationals, Whip It!, the rules, anything Derby related... feel free to ask here.

Artist For Sale! (Yet Again) ( September 5th, 2009 )
Put me to work. I'd appreciate it. Commissions, Donations, Prints, Original Panels, etc.
It's been a few months since I had to make a trip to the well. But I'm still owed a considerable amount of money by my previous ad agency. And while I wait to be paid, I'm also looking at new advertisers. While I look though, I'd really like to augment what I have left by offering up my services.

Here are some of the options for putting me to work:

· Commission an Original Piece. Want me to GU-ize you or one of your characters? All of the details you need can be found on the Commissions Page.

· Buy Comic Prints. Just go to any Comic in The Archives and click the "Buy A Print" button below the comic. Prints are currently $5 USD plus shipping.
(Sorry guest strips are not eligible.)

· Buy an original panel. Just hit The Archives. Any date shown with a green background represents a comic whose original artwork is still available.

· Donate! As much as I prefer to actually work for your money, donations are also an option. Click Here to Donate.

· Buy something from the GU Store. I've got a lot of inventory I'd like to be done with. I know I haven't added anything new lately. But hey... it takes money to make new items to make money or something like that. Right?

Rebecca's Run ( September 5th, 2009 )
Support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Your Help Needed/Appreciated!
Rebecca Byrd is a friend of mine from high school. This October 18th she will be running the San Franciso Nike Women's Marathon with Team in Training to support the efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Rebecca has set a fundraising goal of $5000. At the time of this posting she has raised over $3000 of that. She just needs a little of our help to get the last bit.

You can access Rebecca's story, her training log and a very convenient donation button via her Team in Training page:
Rebecca's Run

---

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.

Team in Training is the LLS' fitness driven fundraising program. Over the past 20 years, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training® (TNT) has grown to become an unparalleled sports training program. More than 390,000 participants, from first timers to seasoned athletes, have trained with the Team and achieved their best at marathons, half marathons, triathlons, 100-mile century bike rides and hiking adventures.

Rebecca Byrd is a carrier of the BRCA[sub]1+[/sub] gene mutation which put her at extremely high risk for devloping breast & ovarian cancers at a young age. In November of last year Rebecca took the preventative step of having her breasts removed in a surgery called bilateral prophylactic mastectomy (BPM) drastically reducing her risk for breast cancer. Wanting to get the word of breast cancer prevention out to as many BRCA+ young women as she could, Rebecca has created a website where BRCA+ women can get information on BPM and the relatively new, widely unheard of surgical technique she chose for herself: www.onestepscoop.com

Rebecca is running in honor of Bette Mitchell, Jeryl Byrd, Renee McLaughlin, Terence Hartman, Avery Baszler, Roger & Sheri Culbert, Kathryn Fosset, and her 7 year old "honored hero" Kate.

For more information on Rebecca, Kate, LLS, Team in Training, and Rebecca's Fundraising goal please visit her training log and information page at the Teamin in Training Website:

Woody at ConnectiCon '09 ( July 14th, 2009 )
July 31st- August 2nd Connecticut Convention Center
The folks at ConnectiCon were kind enough to invite us out again this year. So if you're within driving distance of Hartford, come out and visit yeah? I won't be manning a table but here's my schedule:

Friday July 31
5pm – 6pm Games! Games! Games!
Scott Ramoosair (VG Cats), Tim Buckley (Ctrl-Alt-Del), Brian Clevenger (8-Bit Theatre/Atomic Robo) and Woody Hearn (GU Comics) sit down and talk about Games. Maybe how games relate to their comics, or maybe just what games they’re enjoying at the moment, or hate at the moment. Whatever the case, this panel is all about games.

Saturday August 1
Noon – 1pm GU Comics Meet and Greet
Woody Hearn of GU Comics fame sits down to talk about zombification, games, and the craft of webcomicking. He’ll also be available to take questions.

1pm-3pm Webcomics Auction (MAIN EVENTS)
The webcomics auction will be open to all webcomics guests and permit them to put up merchandise, original art, etc for open auction with proceeds going toward Child's Play.

3pm – 4pm Photoshop Coloring With Scott Ramoosair and Woody Hearn
Scott Ramoosair and Woody Hearn team up to crack jokes while teaching the viewers about the finer points of coloring with light.

Be sure to come find me so I can correct all the GU related typos in your program guide and potentially sign you guest badge since I've done 8 of the 12 badge images. Which leads me to a comment on the Webcomic Auction. One of the items I'll be putting up is a framed print of the 8 badge images I did.

Prints For Sale Again! ( June 14th, 2009 )
I'm home, so I can fill requests for prints once more!
I'm finally home, so I can sell comic prints again. I couldn't do it while I was away because... well... I couldn't really take all the equipment with me to print them. And if someone here printed them for me, I couldn't really sign them from 2000 miles away.
Enjoy!

Home Again, Home Again... ( June 14th, 2009 )
I'm back from helping my pal. Comics are back on schedule starting tomorrow (Monday, June 15th).
Being gone for two weeks on two days notice was kinda rough. I know some of you really enjoyed the art break, but quite a few didn't (and that's okay). So, those of you that have been sneering and avoiding GU for the last couple of weeks can stop and come back to the fold. (I hope.)

I'm out of town! ( June 3rd, 2009 )
In case you missed the news Friday (5/29). I'm away for two weeks.
I mentioned in the writeup for the 5/29 artwork filler strip that I'm currently out of town for two weeks helping a friend getting and old building ready for a new baby. And I only had two days to prepare to leave. So I put together two weeks of pre-GU artwork.

If you're not interested in seeing my old artwork, the comics will return to normal Monday, June 15th. See you then.

I'm trying to log in and check the forums each day. It's not always possible, but I'm trying. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to moving, cleaning, building, reorganizing, etc. **waves**

Oooo! New Ted Swag! ( January 18th, 2009 )
Zombies and Mad scientists ahead!
A while back I commissioned the guys from Ned the Chainsaw Guy to do two movie poster style images for the GU Store. They did the artwork and the movie titles. I did the credits. Fast forward a few months, Shark Robot takes over GU's shirts and can produce 16x20 inch Giclee Prints. Archival ink. Luster quality photo paper. The works. So we put them into production.

One poster is Ted and I facing a pressing mass of zombies, with Iggy using the Zapper to back us up. The "movie" is called Night of the Living Ted. You can get the print here:
Night of the Living Ted Giclee Print 16"x20" - $11.95

The second poster is Ted as a mad scientist with Iggy and I looking on. The "movie" here is call It's Alive!. You can get the print here:
It's Alive! Giclee Print 16"x20" - $11.95

I'm also in talks with Gensen to produce a 6 to 8 inch Ted statue. I'll keep you guys posted on that.

Thanks again to the guys at Ned the Chainsaw Guy and Shark Robot for helping me bring these two posters to the table.
