Star Trek: "Ghooost"
Posted: Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 by

Star Trek turns 50 next year. And, it seems, CBS is keen to capitalize on that anniversary by premiering a new Star Trek TV series via their digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service CBS All Access. [more info] The subscription service is currently $5.99 per month and includes thousands of hours of programming from CBS's archives as well as the ability stream your local CBS channel live.

The new Star Trek TV series will air January of 2017, and is being produced by Alex Kurtzman, the co-writer and producer for both the Star Trek film reboot and its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. And THAT would be where my concern comes in. Where I actually enjoyed both of the new films, it seems to me that with each successive iteration of the franchise, either by film or TV series, the tone gets darker and farther from Gene Roddenberry's original concept. It's time, in my opinion, to return to the spirit of exploration that drove it originally, not the focus on surviving war and world ending calamity against all odds.

Am I wrong in this? Is it dumb of me to want something more upbeat?
