Dungeons & Dragons: "Armor"
Posted: Monday January 7th, 2013 by

So our Friday Night gaming group has been tasked to enter the "Underdark". And as a troupe of three goblins, it's not going to be an easy trip. So a lot of time this past Friday was spent preparing for our descent. I brought my Underdark knowledge, and a great skill check to bear, to let folks know we could just go in blind... literally.

A bit of background: while we take a break from the primary campaign, we're running a small group of characters leveled up to paragon tier. I've been playing the same jack-of-all-trades goblin bard, but this past Friday the other two guys jumped on board with goblins characters they're attached to. One is a goblin barbarian; the other is a goblin ninja (monk/rogue).

This is all well and good, but the underdark is a crazy place full of powerful creatures, limited resources (for the uninitiated), and an absolute lack of light. Powerful creatures we can handle, even with our tiny group. Lack of light we can deal with via a pair of darkvision goggles I own and a ritual I can cast once per day for free. Lack of food we can get past by way of two bags of holding and a boatload of rations. Water though... that's a bit more difficult. Sure a bag of holding is useful but in 4e, it only holds 200 lbs. That's not a lot of water for 3 goblins over the course of a month. I decided to combat that issue with more rituals. The Barbarian? decided to bring 15 waterskins. No joke. I'm only assuming that he intends to wear them in some kind of... waterskin-hide armor.

If you're curious about the jaw bones. It's part of the culture within this particular tribe of goblins, called the Snagglemaw. The jawbone is an expression of who they are as a character, a point of pride, a family heirloom, a trophy. One of these days I might actually introduce you guys fully to the campaign setting we play in.
