Gaming News: "Just A Guess"
Posted: Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 by

Man where do I start with this one?

I woke up this morning to rumblings all over the gaming news-verse about how security "bouncer-types" were standing outside of Infinity Ward's offices. Two high level staff members were "missing" after a meeting with Activision. Updates to the story listed changes to the LinkedIn professional profile of CTO Jason West. Vince Zampella is believed to be the other staff member. The Activision released an SEC filing that mentioned an investigation into "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees of Infinity Ward. And finally, in response to everything that is going on, Double Fine's Time Schafer (Brutal Legend, Psychonauts) twitted the following summation:
Source: G4 TV: The Feed [ more info ]

"Getting mad at Activision for this kind of thing is like getting mad at an ape for throwing feces. It's just how the beast communicates." [more info]

The prevailing -guess- is that Activision wants Infinity Ward to turn Modern Warfare 2 into a pay-to-play game, West and Zampella said "no". Fwoomp! Fired. Sure my "guess" may be a little bit more extreme but it the same basic sentiment. Mo' money mo' money mo' money. [/miserablemoviereference]

I'll be following this story and update this thread as needed.

Update:
West and Zampella have filed suit against Activision and are seeking compensation and a return of their contractual rights to the Modern Warfare brand. [more info] Their attorney Robert Schwartz said, "Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public, last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination on Monday, March 1st."
