The Sims 3: "Constantly Changing"

Initial details about the release of The Sims 3 have begun making their way around the net, and now will appear as a 12 page exclusive in the April/May issue of Game for Windows magazine.

I've only played the Sims briefly myself. I quickly realized that I lacked the patience to micro-manage every activity within the game. The only joy for me was in building/decorating the home. But reading the comments of Rod Humble and some of his team, it seem that significant changes will be made to the game to refocus players' attention on what's going on in their "constantly changing" towns. That means the basic, time consuming, micro-managed events such as eating, peeing, sleeping, etc have been mushed together into a more basic "mood" system.

As I read the descriptions of some of the other changes to the game, certain things stuck out to me and twisted the direction of the game into an all new piece of weirdness. Micro-management has been replaced with a general mood indicator. The "sandbox" is a wide-open, constantly changing neighborhood. And, the character-creation system has been "radically revamped ". Obviously EA has bought a small town and each family has agreed to serve as generally-controllable game character.

The Sims series has made enough money for that to be viable... right?
