Gaming News: "Guilty by Association"
Posted: Thursday January 20th, 2005 by

I was perusing Gamespot yesterday and found an Interview the conducted with Wil Wheaton, the guy that played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation who now runs a popular blog and has written several books.

The Comic is where my brain takes the interview after Wil lets us know that he "avoid[s] massivley multiplayer online games like the plague" and then shows regret for the time he spent playing a MUD. I honestly believe that if you enjoy something, which he obviously did if he played for two years, and it doesn't harm you in any way, you should never completely turn your back on it. Walk away from it fine. But, wish you'd never done it? Dunno, seem to kind of demean the escape and enjoyment it provided. And that sentiment is why I used the interviewer to wave off his most notable accomplishments with a "blah blah blah" and a "yada yada yada". Turn about being fair play and all. **grins**

Anywho, this is just a gentle, good-natured ribbing though. Wil is a good guy, and his reasons for avoiding MMOGs now are very sound. He has a family and would prefer not to get caught up in and consumed by a virtual reality when the real thing is infinitely more important to him. Can't ask for a better reason to avoid them than that.
