The readers here at GU helped me through a tough spot, when they found out I'd not been paid for months. They bought panels, they made store purchases, they commissioned artwork, and donated to the site, raising almost enough to pay one month of bills (which is exactly what I did with it). In these rough economics times it was an incredible outpouring of support. Then I was paid half of what was owed to me by my ad provider. I was able to catch up all of my bills, slightly pay down some of my outstanding credit debt, and pay off money that had been loaned to me by a family member.
I was starting to do the calculations, figuring out our budget so that I could get us back on track and re-establish the savings I had before the beginning of last year. And then it came. The remaining bill from the legal battle I was forced to fight last year. Just when I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, the train stopped and steamed 7 thousand dollars in the other direction. **sighs**
One of these days my occassional optimism will pay off.... one of these days.

I know there are a lot of rules on these forums but, by an large they are ridiculously easy to follow. But one of my pet peeves is how things are linked in writeup threads.
See writeup threads are read, not just by active participants on the forums but by people who do not read any other part of the forums at all. So, it's vital that I keep posts in writeup threads as direct as possible. And part of doing that means that every link should be manicured and concise. So writeup threads are the only ones where I will actively complain about people not using the nifty little BBCode tags that I have made specifically for linking things in a way that allows non-participant readers to OPT IN to following links.
[source] let's the writer cite an article/webpage as the basis of their comments.
[more] turns a long, ugly url into a straight forward, "more info" link.
[pic] turns a long, ugly image url in a quick, "image" link.
I just don't understand why I have to ask people to read the forum rules about links in writeup threads over and over again. I'll even ask IN the thread and people skip right past the request and violate the rules again.
In recent days, I've actually considered suspension again. Just for one day! To force them to read a message about how to use three little tags and how much happier it would make my life.
